Why do I need marine insurance?
Boat insurance is like a liferaft—you have to have it but you hope you never have to use it. Today, marine insurance covers a lot more than just damage to your boat. Policies may include coverage for oil spill and environmental damage, haulouts for repairs, marina damages, liability, towing, medical payments, a tender and more. In fact, many marinas today require that your boat be insured before they will offer you slip space.
